On Sunday, April 5th, Easter Sunday, main roads leading to Mexico City are experiencing congestion, so take precautions if you are driving. Both the National Guard and Federal Roads, Bridges and Related Services (Capufe) are reporting slow traffic on various highways across the country this Sunday, after thousands of families left for the holidays during Holy Week. One of the congested highways is the Mexico-Cuernavaca. As of 5:00 PM this Sunday, the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway has “intense vehicle traffic” from kilometer 45 to 71, heading towards Mexico City. According to Capufe, the traffic on the Mexico-Cuernavaca is due to the concentration of cars during the holiday period, so they ruled out accidents or blockages as the cause. One of the points with the most traffic is the Tlalpan Viaduct. There is also traffic this afternoon on the Cuernavaca-Acapulco highway heading towards Morelos, due to the return of thousands of people who went to the beaches for Holy Week. Another issue is on the Mexico-Querétaro Highway. If you are arriving in Mexico City from the north or west, you should know that the Mexico-Querétaro Highway is facing two complications. The first is an accident recorded this afternoon at kilometer 48 heading towards Mexico City, which has already been attended to and traffic is expected to normalize after 5:30 PM. However, the vehicle load is high at the Tepotzotlan toll booth, where the Northern Periférico ends, in both directions, so take precautions, as long lines at this toll booth may extend until the night.
